Where Mrs. Luetgert Was Seen:
Ashland, Wisconsin

On December 11, 1897, the Chicago Tribune reported:

Ashland, Wis., Dec. 10. [Special.] An unknown woman who is staying with a Polish family named Sobrinski in this place is believed by many to be Mrs. Luetgert. She is a German, but declares she is French. Neighbors say she bears a striking resemblance to the portraits of Mrs. Luetgert.
