Where Mrs. Luetgert Was Seen:
Lowell and Cedar Falls, Iowa

On October 8, 1897, the Chicago Inter Ocean reported:

Another Mrs. Luetgert letter was received yesterday. This time Postmaster Gordon is the recipient. The letter bore the postmark of Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 6 p.m., Oct. 6. It read as follows:

LOWELL, Oct. 6. P.M.I am in the land of the living and not ground up into sausage as reported; gone and never to return no more. Can't stand the disgrace, good buy to all.

MRS. L.L. LUETGERT.

The letter was written in English and apparently in a disguised hand. While mailed at Cedar Falls, it purports to have been sent from Lowell.
