Louis A. Luetgert

Adolph Luetgert's second-eldest son, and the eldest child from the marriage with Louise Bicknese.
Born: June 2, 1885.
Died: March 27, 1960.

Just before Adolph Luetgert died, a court awarded Diedrich Bicknese the guardianship of his nephews, Louis and Elmer. (View the court document.) But a month later, Bicknese failed to appear in court or pay the required bond of $500, thus losing guardianship. (View the court document.) According to a newspaper report, Louis and Elmer were living with their father's business associate, William Charles, at the time of Adolph Luetgert's death in 1899. Their whereabouts over the next few years are unclear. According to a Bicknese family history, he lived with his mother's sister, Wilhemina Mueller, in 1905. Louis's first appearance in the Chicago city directories seems to be in 1904, when he is listed as a postal clerk residing at 626 Mildred Avenue, which was also listed as the home of his cousin, Alexander Mueller (the son of Wilhemina). In 1906, Louis was listed at a new address, 132 Burling, Chicago. And in 1907, he was living in the west suburb of Forest Park. Louis married Olga Dannenbrink in 1905. He clerked at the Chicago post office, and had transferred to the Oak Park post office by 1910, and moved again in 1917 to the Elmhurst post office. He eventually became the postmaster for Elmhurst. His wife died in 1945. He married his second wife, Helen, in 1948.  He had four children from his first marriage.
